Symmetry - Asymmetry
Change a symmetrical shape or property to an asymmetrical shape or property or vice versa.

  1. Change the degree of asymmetry (increase, decrease).
  2. Replace rectilinear outlines and shapes by curved, spherical or spiral outlines and shapes or vice versa.
  3. Replace rectilinear processes by iterative or periodic actions or vice versa.
  4. Related technical TRIZ Principles:3. Local Quality, 4. Asymmetry, 14. Spheroidality
EXAMPLE:
  1. Different marketing concepts for different target groups: an asymmetric division of markets allows for optimal matching of the specific needs of each market segment and target group.
  2. Individual budgeting of the different research departments in an organization instead of a fixed equally distributed budget for all. (E.g. a fixed percentage of the turnover).
  3. Honda's 4M-Philosophy in product development - 'man maximum, machine minimum'.
